The Sale includes all raw inventory (hats are all made to order so there is no wasted stock), thousands of unmade straw braid bodies and fur felt bodies, hundreds of wood blocks and all the equipment (fixed assets) and seven top-notch employees.
The 35-year-old hat business is on 35th Street (behind Macy's). Annual billings are under $1 million. Owner will provide all of the support necessary for a smooth transition with buyers and staff and will design collections and meet with major buyers if needed.
“Facilities: 5000 square foot factory, lease negotiable, Midtown Manhattan, includes 100's of wood blocks, sewing machines, blocking plant, ovens, all raw materials (bodies) for making hats, labor in place.”
“Competition: There is very little competition. We make the best men's hats in the world as well as church, dressy hats and women's classic hats. This is a tremendous growth opportunity for buyer willing to put in the effort.”
“Growth-Expansion: Women's classic, church and dressy lines are very underdeveloped. The right person could definitely expand sales. Business name is well established and well known and could be used to expand into other accessory categories.”
Support and Training: Owner will provide All Support necessary for smooth transition with staff and buyers. Will design collections and meet with major buyers if desired.
The reason for this sale is that the owner is 63- years-old and would like to slow down. Contact - hatcompanyforsale@gmail.com or dfyoga@aol.com

International Millinery Forum 2011

After a well earned rest (working on many other projects!) I am extremely excited about the planning of the next International Millinery Forum!
15-22 January 2011
The focus of this forum will remain on professionalism and TOP QUALITY millinery tutors, with some tweaking and refining of the program and logistics to ensure we are ofering you what you want.
Following your feedback we will commit to:
>Ensuring workshop material lists are appropriate and include essential items only; we will be looking into kits and methods of making this process easier for all delegates (particuarly those who travel by plane!).
>Improving the skill level system to prevent delegates registering for workshops above or below their capabilities. We are looking at a checklist system, whereby delegates have to complete the checklist to determone what skill level they fall into (this will need to be submitted with registration forms).
>Introducing varying length workshops according to the skill level and technique. This means we will have a range of 1-2 day workshops for intermediates, a couple of 3 day workshops for beginners and a range of 1/2 - 1 day workshops for advanced delegates. This will make the registration process a little more complex but we will ensure it is hassle free for you!
Keep an eye on this blog for regular updates and news about the planning and preparation of the 2011 forum and i look forward to seeing you again soon!
Linda

2009 International Millinery Forum CROWNED a BRIMMING sucess

Millinery designers to the world’s celebrities came together for a special event to share their design secrets and intricate skills with budding milliners across the country.

For only the second time ever in Australia, the International Millinery Forum was held on 17 – 22 January 2009 in Wagga Wagga. Forum coordinator Linda Tillman said the event was a tremendous success with the world class tutors and their hands on workshops proving the highlight.

Included in the international line up was The Netherlands’ Eugenie van Oirschot; Hong Kong’s Jaycow; Jan Wutkowski from the United States; and the United Kingdom’s Ian Bennett who has won an Emmy award for costume drama and has a raft of admiring clients including the likes of Madonna.

The overseas guests were joining the home grown global designers including Neil Grigg, Waltraud Reiner, Georgina Conheady, Phillip Rhodes, Bette Fogarty, Richard Nylon, Maris Herr, Jane Stoddart, Jean Carroll OAM, Carol Wilkes and Pamela Martin. .

In addition to the workshops the diverse program featured a milliners trade expo, slideshows, seminars and a cocktail party with the week culminating in a 1920’s Gala De Haute Couture and hat parade.

The 1920’s gala was absolutely amazing, everyone dressed to theme, the room was set to theme and the local entertainment was phenomenal. It really did feel like you were in the 1920’s.

The International Millinery Forum will be held in Wagga Wagga city again in 2011, with planning already underway for a bigger and better event.
The 2011 dates, along with photos and reports from the 2009 event will soon be posted to this blog and the IMF website http://www.internationalmillineryforum.com.au/
